When my clients found their fixer upper, it was in need of a lot of work. The house had a lot going for it: the right size, great back yard, great street, walking distance to town. Unfortunately, there were structural issues and the floor plan was all wrong. The previous owners had modified the home to make a handicap accessible bedroom and bathroom on the first floor. The kitchen was awkward with a huge non-functional chimney literally in the middle. The updates were 80s-esque and not great. The master bedroom and bath were super small, and you had to enter the kids bath sideways to get to the toilet! The house was in desperate need of a facelift.
My clients are a lawyer, an artist and their two young children. They needed a house with a great floor plan, eat-in kitchen, connected family room, great master bath, functional kids bath, an office, and an artist studio. No small job! Luckily, these guys were up for the challenge. The first step was to zero in their style. Thus the Upper Montclair Farmhouse was born. Over the next few bog posts, I will give you the before and afters of this major renovation. The results will amaze you! They still amaze me.
